Bringing awareness of health and wellness to Educators through on-site screening

About Our Charity

The TagHeart Foundation is a nonprofit organization operated exclusively for purposes pursuant to section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The foundation was established in January 2022 by Mark McTaggart and Dr. Odette Thomas because we identified an opportunity to enhance the health and welfare of our Jamaican teachers.

Our Mission

The mission of the TagHeart Foundation is to bring awareness of health and wellness to educators through on-site health screening, community service, and providing them with educational tools to optimize their health.  We recognize the integral role our educators have in molding the future of our nation and we are aware that they often place the needs and well-being of their students above their own. As such, the TagHeart Foundation aims to bring some of that care to educators.

What we do

  • We liaison with school leadership to assess interest in being recipients of our health fair.
  • We discuss with the recipient school our intent to check blood pressure, blood sugar, and Body Mass Index on site.
  • We provide teachers with educational material illustrating normal and abnormal screening results.
  • We provide teachers with educational material highlighting healthy living tips and healthy diet options.
  • We provide additional consultation regarding issues of concern to teachers.
  • We refer teachers to seek urgent medical attention if blood pressure or blood sugars are severely abnormal.

TagHeart Foundation, founded by Jamaican couple Dr Odette Thomas and Mark McTaggart, recently delivered free health care services to the teaching and administrative staff at Old Harbour Primary School. The US-registered charity was making its second voyage to Jamaica, following its debut tour last year visiting Marlie Mount Primary and Infant School...

Three educators, based at Marlie Mount Primary and Infant School, were recently gifted with cash incentives courtesy of TagHeart Foundation.

The kind gesture was in response to the overwhelming support the United States-registered charity received from the Old Harbour-based state-run institution during its inaugural health fair staged in June.

For much of her 13 years as a medical doctor Odette Thomas associated herself with medical missions assisting those most in need.

Last month the foundation, a registered charity in the United States, embarked on its first mission. It was the most opportune time for the team to travel to Jamaica, where 10 educators recently died within a four-week period. Their deaths were linked to several non-communicable and lifestyle diseases.
